AISC Wellness Matters 2019-2020

Weekly Wellness Blog: October 23rd, 2019

This weekend all of India will be celebrating the festival of lights Diwali. It is one of the most significant festivals in Indian culture, Diwali, the festival of lights, sees millions attend firework displays, prayers and celebratory events across the world every autumn.

The festival is celebrated by Hindus, Sikhs, and Jains for a variety of reasons, although the main theme which runs throughout is the triumph of light over darkness and good over evil.

To celebrate, houses are decorated with candles and colorful lights and huge firework displays are held while families feast and share gifts. The festival, which coincides with the Hindu New Year, celebrates new beginnings and the triumph of good over evil and light over darkness. The festival usually falls between the middle of October and the middle of November, although this is decided upon by the Hindu lunar calendar.

While each faith has its own reason to celebrate the festival, one of the most popular stories told is the legend of Lord Rama and his wife Sita returning to their kingdom in northern India from exile after defeating the demon king Ravanna in the 15th century BC.

Wishing you all a very Happy Diwali.

Weekly Wellness Blog: October 9th, 2019

Welcome back to all of you after fall break. I hope you had a relaxed and well-deserved break. I saw a lot of you traveling to places you had never been to before, meeting up with the family or just relaxing on a beach. The challenge for this week and the week ahead is: Of all the places you visit this Fall Break, tweet a picture of your fav moment. It can be a place you visited, new food you tried, a candid shot of you doing something, etc. The first 20 entries with the hashtag #AISCWellbeing will win fun gifts. You already have the pictures. Go ahead and post them now.

Story Trails - India exists in her stories

The sights you see are but a small part of her charm. To truly experience India, try sampling the local life, with its assortment of customs, traditions, and stories.
Story trails was born with the idea of sampling India through her stories; Of taking our guests to savor local sights and sounds, but through the eyes of a storyteller; Of going beyond the sights themselves, and uncovering characters and customs that made these places come alive.
I am hoping to coordinate events with Story Trails based on your interest. Have a look at what they have to offer. Here is the link to their website. You can attend this individually or with a group. I'm leaning more towards a group as we could offer transportation to and fro from the tour chosen if need be.
Fill in the form to the tour you would like to attend and I will then revert back to you. I've only gotten 4 responses so far. Once I have a minimum of 10 responses I can take this forward and have it organized for you. It's a great opportunity for all of you to experience a slice of Chennai.
