Weekly Wellness Blog: November 6th, 2019

Want to be happy? Be grateful.

“There are many things for which we cannot be grateful, but there is no moment for which we cannot be grateful, because in every moment, even difficult ones, we have the opportunity to do something.” — Brother David Steindl-Rast

Brother David Steindl-Rast, a Benedictine monk, meditates and writes on "the gentle power" of gratefulness. Watch his video here

Why you should listen
Many first met Brother David Steindl-Rast through a viral video called "Nature. Beauty. Gratitude," where Louie Schwartzberg's footage of time-lapse flowers in bloom is narrated by Brother David's moving words asking us to simply be ... grateful

AISC Wellness Matters 2019-2020

Weekly Wellness Blog: October 23rd, 2019

This weekend all of India will be celebrating the festival of lights Diwali. It is one of the most significant festivals in Indian culture, Diwali, the festival of lights, sees millions attend firework displays, prayers and celebratory events across the world every autumn.

The festival is celebrated by Hindus, Sikhs, and Jains for a variety of reasons, although the main theme which runs throughout is the triumph of light over darkness and good over evil.

To celebrate, houses are decorated with candles and colorful lights and huge firework displays are held while families feast and share gifts. The festival, which coincides with the Hindu New Year, celebrates new beginnings and the triumph of good over evil and light over darkness. The festival usually falls between the middle of October and the middle of November, although this is decided upon by the Hindu lunar calendar.

While each faith has its own reason to celebrate the festival, one of the most popular stories told is the legend of Lord Rama and his wife Sita returning to their kingdom in northern India from exile after defeating the demon king Ravanna in the 15th century BC.

Wishing you all a very Happy Diwali.
