"Actions speak louder than words", We all hear this quote time and again. How many of us actually make that effort? I'm a strong believer in practicing what I preach and the past few years have been consciously making an effort in trying to make my community a better place. Small actions go a long way.  There is no mantra for this to happen. It's very simple. Always be kind! Your actions have a bigger impact than you might realize.

We have all heard the quote, “people may not remember what you said, or what you did, but they will always remember how you made them feel.” Why not leave them with something positive?

Some lessons I’ve learned about kindness over the years:

  • Everyone is affected by an act of kindness. Kindness is contagious and you never know just how big of an impact a small gesture of kindness can have.
  • Kindness improves our quality of life in the workplace as well as in the community. It brings people together.
  • Doing good for others feels good. Showing kindness to others is just as rewarding as receiving it from someone else.
  • Stop and think before you talk or act (Is it true? Is it necessary? Is it kind?).
  • Remember to laugh throughout the day. Spreading joy is its own act of kindness.

Here are some other ways to spread kindness in the workplace:

  • Lead by example. Always remember your manners. Our parents taught us them for a reason, please make sure to use them. Thank you. Others will follow your lead.
  • Put an end to petty criticism. Remember the saying, “If you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all”? Try to keep it positive.
  • Welcome new employees with open arms. Take a moment to introduce yourself to new employees and get to know them. We’ve all been the new person at one point or another, so make sure you’re doing your part to make them feel welcome and part of the team. After all, they may be the future of our company and our next goodwill ambassadors.
  • Recognize one another’s strengths; not weaknesses. A pat on the back can go a long way. I have never met a person that doesn’t like to feel appreciated.
  • Be kind to others. Always remember that even though you may work in a different department, we are all in this together.

Now is your moment: Spread a little joy, make a difference in someone’s day, and remember to always be kind!

Diwali: Festival of Lights

May the lights of Diwali make your and your loved ones life brighter and happier. Wish you all a very very Happy Diwali!

In northern India, they celebrate the story of King Rama's return to Ayodhya after he defeated Ravana by lighting rows of clay lamps.
Southern India celebrates it as the day that Lord Krishna defeated the demon Narakasura.
In western India the festival marks the day that Lord Vishnu, the Preserver (one of the main gods of the Hindu trinity) sent the demon King Bali to rule the nether world.

DIWALI IS CELEBRATED OVER FIVE DAYS.

DAY ONE: People clean their homes and shop for gold or kitchen utensils to help bring good fortune.
DAY TWO: People decorate their homes with clay lamps and create design patterns called rangoli on the floor using colored powders or sand.
DAY THREE: On the main day of the festival, families gather together for Lakshmi puja, a prayer to Goddess Lakshmi, followed by mouth-watering feasts and firework festivities.
DAY FOUR: This is the first day of the new year, when friends and relatives visit with gifts and best wishes for the season.
DAY FIVE: Brothers visit their married sisters, who welcome them with love and a lavish meal.

I just finished watching A Suitable Boy on Netflix and highly recommend it. An astonishing cast, led by Ishaan Khatter, Tabu and Tanya Maniktala, struggles to make the most of minimal screentime and a mediocre script in Mira Nair’s unsuitable adaptation of Vikram Seth’s novel.
